Title says the gist. On Saturday, May 31st, around midday, we'll be premiering our new song, Callers: Who We Are, on our YouTube channel. I promise, it's a banger!

C:WWA Started kinda the way Emergence did: a fun little idea inspired by media we liked as a way to show off our skills and expand the Callers world. I got the idea from the band, Falconshield, who make this rap cypher series called "This is War," where vocalists spit bars as League of Legends characters. I've been writing lyrics since I was 6, so that part came easy. And, while I mostly listen to rock and electronic music, I started with hip-hop. (Is it obvious I listen to Linkin Park, yet?) Si, when coming up with ideas for other Callers media, this was a no brainer!

So, I've never been fond of being limited by demographic or preconceptions. I know a rap song isn't the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of book marketing, but I... Don't really care! Honestly, a lot of the conventions we follow work, sure. But, they're not the only way. And the only reason they're common is because people tend to trade control for convenience. But, writers come from all walks of life. And, Callers is aimed at those who, like me, don't stay in one place, fit in one box, or stick to one genre.

The song was originally written with the intention of the main voice actors for each character to also voice them in the song (we have an audiobook planned and, in case you haven't been following, dropped some voice teasers throughout our socials). Some complications arose there. Conflicting schedules and priorities forced us to change our plans a little. But, we have a tight team, here. We figured it out.

Luna stepped up and recorded Mira's verse, initially only intending to help out whoever would end up recording it. But she did so well, and has been so helpful in general, we decided to keep her on the final cut.

Our homie, Iiizuko, had been helping out for a while behind the scenes, and took to Aaron pretty quickly (which isn't surprising considering he's a vegan who blows almost as much tree as he eats!!), so we figured this would be a good way to introduce him to the world.

Then there's Ameena, who is the only voice actor beside me to reprise their role on the song. With a voice that sounds as decadent and smooth as milk chocolate tastes, and an unrelentingly busy schedule, we were fortunate and grateful that she made time to record her verse.

As for TK? That was originally going to be me, along with Koren. But, that made before me get live a little complicated. Fortunately, one of my colleagues is an established performer who helped out at a Taste of Rin, back in October. He lent his voice - and his production skills - to TK's verse.

The lyrics reflect key aspects of each character's personality and reference points in their canon stories. Obviously, this means those who have read the book will have a better understanding of the song. So if you want the full experience (shameless plug incoming) pick up a copy of Callers: Emergence, today. But the two are not mutually exclusive. With or without reading, I'm confident you'll catch these bars!! And that's kind of the point. Our crew is about more than books, even if that is where this whole thing started. There are many ways to tell a story. We want to use them all. Because there are many faces that make up Who We Are!
